Consciousness is the source of our performance. It flows through everything we do. If we want to increase our performance as leaders, teams and organisations and make a positive impact on society, we have to develop our consciousness.

Our consciousness is how we perceive, understand, and engage with the world, determining the nature of our impact. If we want to change our impact, we need to change our consciousness.

Organisations focus on what people need to ‘know’ and ‘do’ but neglect the ‘source’. Development is about focusing on the source of what people know and do; consciousness. To be successful, people need both learning and consciousness development; the two go hand-in-hand.

If learning proceeds ahead of consciousness development, the person cannot cope with the complexity and sophistication of knowledge and skills. Consequently, they will oversimplify what they are being taught, or their brain will crash and be unable to learn anymore.

If consciousness development proceeds ahead of learning, the person will not have the tools needed to work with and communicate the complexity they are seeing. As a result, they are likely to become increasingly detached from other people and their organisation.

To be effective, people in the workplace need both learning and consciousness development, and they must proceed at equal rates.
